Angamar Campaign One Month Update

Angamar after the first month

The first week of the Angamar campaign had been extremely bloody for all the forces on the planet.  Each faction had relentlessly pursued their agendas, even to the point of betraying their own comrades.  After the initial planetfalls, the fluid battle lines had hardened into static meat-grinders.  The fight for Angamar was only beginning...

The Ultramarines had managed to secure vital sections of the planet from the clutches of the Eldar and Dark Eldar looters while defending against an attack by the crazed Blood Angels.  Now that the Blood Angels could no longer be trusted, the Ultramarines would have to split their forces even more to secure the planet.

The Brothers Penitent had captured one of the many Fallen who had taken refuge on the planet.  The traitor had managed to even infilitrate the Blood Angels.  The prescence of traitors amongst one of the Imperium's most storied Space Marine chapters meant that the loyalties of all the Imperial forces on Angamar were now suspect.  However, the Brothers still had managed to establish a strong base on the planet for future operations.

The Dark Angels had initially engaged the Necron forces, hoping to eliminate the xenos and begin helping the Brothers Penitent in pursuing the Fallen.  The initial attack had seemed to go well until the Necrons sprung a devious trap and almost destroyed one of the Dark Angel taskforces.  With the chance for quick destruction of the Necrons gone, the Dark Angels fell back to their bases to settle in for a long campaign.

The Blood Angels had suffered greatly in their quest to secure Angamar's relic.  Fragments of the relic had triggered the Red Thirst in Mephiston's force and even driven them into attacking the Ultramarines.  Further, they had come under attack from the Brothers Penitent and been pushed even further back into their territory.  Now regrouped and supplied with heavy support, Mephiston's force was once again ready to seek out the relic that would either be his Chapter's salvation or destruction...

Interesting month!  Most people split games and everyone passed their capture rolls, so several territories switched hands multiple times.  I (Bob) managed to capture two manufactorums and a power station, so I feel that I am pretty well off.  I now have nine territories, so I only need one more-- but I would still need to beat Forest and London first.  However, I am more than likely going to be playing with fewer points than any of my opponents, which will make things MUCH harder.  (Spoiler alert... it already had an impact in my most recent game against Ned).  I know my main focus in the immediate future is going to be to try and secure more manufactorums.

I think London is in a great position going into this month.  He has a solid selection of assets and has manufactorums to offset his extra territories and has a shield generator protecting most of them.  He managed to grab an extra Bastion to get to the magic number, two.  (Having two of an asset is a huge jump in effectiveness from having only one)

Ned managed to basically break even for the month.  He gained a manufactorum and then lost one.  He is one tough cookie to play against, so he is poised to make a big move this month.

Noah, Forest, and Jeff had a less successful month than they would have like.  Noah lost a Power Station, Forest lost his last Bastion, and Jeff lost two manufactorums.  However, they will now have a points advantage against other players with more territories.  Also, I think Jeff's new acquisitions from Craigslist should have an immediate impact on the effectiveness of his Jumper lists... everyone's been warned!
